Overview
Canoe trips, canoe clinics, canoe courses, whitewater training, canoe guide training, canoe rentals - almost anything you can think of that has to do with a canoe, you can do at Churchill River Canoe Outfitters. CRCO is located in Missinipe on Saskatchewan's Churchill River in the middle of the Canadian Shield. Canoe carriers, canoe sales, canoe trailers, canoe competitions, canoe route maps, and the list could go on.
Hundreds of canoeists stop into Churchill River Canoe Outfitters' Missinipe office every summer to ask for information on the canoe trips they are planning. Ric Driediger, the owner of the company, has been guiding trips in these parts for more than 30 years. He knows every nook and cranny you can put a canoe into. CRCO has canoe trip logs written on dozens of different northern canoe routes. Churchill River Canoe Outfitters' office is a worthwhile place to stop even if you don't need to rent any equipment.
But if you do need a canoe, or any other canoe-tripping gear, Churchill has it. They also rent tents, paddles, lifejackets, packs, sleeping bags, axes, tarps, etc. Many people also have CRCO put together the food for their canoe trip.
Some customers also require a canoe guide. CRCOs’ guides are certified canoe instructors and guides. They know the area: the best places to camp, and where the portages are around the more dangerous rapids and falls. A good guide is a valuable asset on any canoe trip. Kevin Schultz, the senior guide, has been with the company for more 20 years. Anyone who has ever hired him as a guide wants him again.
During the summer months, the guides are busy teaching whitewater canoe courses and canoe guiding courses. This seems to be one of the most popular activities CRCO is involved in. Almost every weekend, and often during the week, from June to September, there is at least one and usually more canoe courses going on in the Missinipe area.
When the guides aren't out teaching, they may be out guiding a canoe trip. CRCO runs canoe trips on most major rivers in Northern Saskatchewan, some rivers in Northern Manitoba, and even some in Nunavut.
When your canoe trip is over you can relax in one of CRCO's comfortable cabins. Whether it is the Lodge, Log Cabin, Fox Den, Aspen, Hideaway, Ravens Loft or Eagles Nest, you will enjoy your stay. Many people stay in a cabin for a week or more. They may get involved in fishing or some of the many other things to do in the Missinipe area. This makes a great family holiday.
Churchill River Canoe Outfitters also has canoes and canoe related items for sale. They even have their one line of canoeing equipment, which they manufacture during the winter months. The Campfire Tent, Self-Supporting Shelter, Cooking Tarps, and Environmental Firebox are some of the items manufactured.
So if you are thinking canoes, or anything that has to do with canoes, head on up to Missinipe and stop at Churchill River Canoe Outfitters and you will be at the right place.
