Overview
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is a special place.
Whether you are a beginner or an expert, Sawbill Canoe Outfitters can help you have a successful canoe trip in Minnesota's famous BWCA Wilderness. Sawbill’s own love of wilderness has given them the experience to advise you, whether you are brand new to canoe country, or a Voyageur of many seasons.
In this age when most people live in cities and towns, wilderness areas have become important places in our lives. Even if you don't visit wilderness, one likes to know there are places where natural systems function without human influence - places where the complex web of life continues, uninterrupted, from ancient times to today. For those of who do visit wilderness, a sense of renewal, spiritual refreshment, and deep relaxation are the rewards. Solitude, peace, self-reliance, and simplicity are the values we seek.
Sawbill Canoe Outfitters was founded in 1957 by Frank and Mary Alice Hansen. They started with a few sleeping bags and six canoes. Today, more than half a century later, Sawbill Canoe Outfitters offers a full line of services with the finest lightweight equipment and supplies. Bill and Cindy Hansen and their children keep the family tradition alive at Sawbill.
Whether you want to rent a single spoon or need complete outfitting for your family, Sawbill's outfitting program can help. Several outfitting packages are available to meet your group's specific needs. Complete Outfitting and Complete Outfitting Plus include all the necessary equipment for a multi-day BWCA canoe trip, plus a mixture of fresh and dehydrated food. Complete Equipment Only (no food) and Food Only (no equipment except food packs) packages are also available.
Just need a few odds and ends? Sawbill rents lightweight canoes and other equipment on a daily basis through or Partial Outfitting service.
The Sawbill Store sells fresh foods and meat, ice, live and artificial bait, dehydrated food, health and beauty aids, clothing, camping gear and gear repair items, books, maps, fishing licenses, insect repellant, souvenirs, as well as used rental equipment and canoes.
Sawbill manages three USFS campgrounds: Sawbill Lake Campground, Crescent Lake Campground and Temperance River Campground.
Sawbill Canoe Outfitters loves to provide you with as much cordial advice and instruction as you need to make your wilderness canoeing experience successful.
